Happy American Independence Day!

In the 1700s along the Atlantic coast of the Americas were thirteen colonies that belonged to England.

Things were not so easy, King George of England was not very fair, and the colonists (people who lived in the colonies) were not happy.

After some time, strong disagreements, and a few fights, the leaders of the thirteen colonies decided to tell King George that enough was enough and they wanted to be free--on July 4, 1776.

King George did not like that.

So they fought.

Several years, battles, and deaths later, the thirteen colonies won the war and became The United States of America. It would take about 170 years for the United States to grow from 13 to 50 states.

In that time, languages continued to evolve and develop. So much so, that now we have "American English" and "British English" (along with "Australian,""South African," "Kiwi," "Singaporean," and other types of English).

If you have watched any Hollywood movie, you will have heard and experienced American English. If you prefer the BBC or Harry Potter movies, all you heard was British English.

Isn't it so strange that both are English, but they are also different languages almost?
